Mountain Bike Club

At this time, due to COVID-19,  Mountain Bike club actitivies have been put on hold. We are hopeful that we can offer this activity in the spring, 2021, stay tuned for more information.

When up and running, students who are interested in joining the Mountain Bike Club should see Mr. Hauff for information and required permission form (see attachment below).

We are excited to begin rides again for our Clayburn Middle School Mountain Bike Club.  Once again, there will be a Beginner group for less experienced riders and an Intermediate group for riders that have spent considerable time riding trails on their mountain bikes.  The Intermediate riders need to be comfortable with ‘Blue’ level trails and should be able to ride a variety of the smaller trail features.  The Beginner group will be a beginner/novice style group for those students that have a mountain bike but their experience may be limited to beginner (Green) trails, gravel trails, and/or pavement.  This year,  rides will be mainly on Wednesdays, and some Tuesdays and Thursdays. There isn’t one day each week that worked every week so we had to be creative.  We also may add a couple of Saturdays depending on weather and the availability of adult volunteers.  Please check the website link and/or our Instagram for updates (see below for links).  For the Tuesday/Thursday rides, we will meet at the trailhead at 3:30pm and divide up into appropriate skill level groups.

Mountain biking is not inherently risky if you ride within your ability level.  However, accidents do happen and we need to be prepared for the odd crash!  This means always wearing a certified bike helmet in good condition and potentially other protective gear such as gloves or knee pads.  Attached is a waiver form for participation in a Higher Risk Activity.  These need to be filled out by parents and returned before any student is allowed to participate in a ride.  There are several adults that are willing to help out with our rides and we could always use more volunteers.  If you are interested and are able to ride, we welcome your help.

Our rides will generally take place in Abbotsford.  There are two main mountain bike trail locations:  Ledgeview/McKee Peak and Sumas Mountain Inter-Regional Park.  Parents will be responsible to transport their kids to the trailheads before the ride begins as well as pick-up at the end of the ride.  I will provide maps and meeting times for all riders.  See the attached tentative schedule for ride dates.  Please make sure you check the website or Instagram (see below) for updates.  Some rides may be cancelled due to excessive rain or other unforeseen circumstances.  As previously stated, we may also add some rides to our schedule, probably up at Sumas.  It is the responsibility of each rider to make sure they check for updates on the day of each ride.

All rides are optional.  Come on one ride or come to all of them.  It’s entirely up to you. Let’s have some fun!
