Transition (Gr 5 to Gr 6)

Welcome

Welcome to Clayburn Middle,

Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition from elementary to middle school.  Below are details of opportunties we have in place to get to know you and your child.

School transitions refer to the process of moving a student from elementary to middle, or from middle to secondary school.  At Clayburn, we have developed a transition plan with each of our feeder elementary schools to ensure that each child's social, emotional and academic needs are met.

Prior to visiting Clayburn, each student will receive introduction letter, and confirmation of registration with SBO/ district forms and Parent Handbook.  We ask that you return the confirmation package to your elementary teacher who will submit it to us on their information day.  Please keep the information letter and Parent Handbook for reference.

Please Note:  students who attend our feeder elementary schools who do not live in the catchment will be required to complete a NON-CATCHMENT REQUEST form (below) and attach to the confirmation of registration if they desire to attend Clayburn.  All non-catchment requests are subject to approval by the School Board Office after the first week of school.

From April 16th to 26th, 2018 , each feeder elementary school will be travelling either  by bus or walking to Clayburn.  During this visit, Grade 5 students will view a short presentation overviewing the schoool, explorations, athletics and other opportunites. The Grade 6 Team Leader will have a short presentation for them, and finally, a tour of the building with our WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) Grade 8 Leaders followed by a snack courtesy of our Clayburn Canteen.

On May 10, 2018, Clayburn will be hosting a Parent Information Night followed with tours of the building, and a Meet and Greet from our PAC.  The presentation will run from 7pm to 8pm, tours from 8 to 8:30 and Meet and Greet to follow.

In addition, all feeder Elementary schools will be attending our school's performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on May 23, 2018 at the Clarke Theatre.

Happening in the background, our Clayburn Administration, Learning Services, and Grade 6 Team will be meeting with each feeder schools transition team to ensure we have the appropriate support and placement for your child.

Below you will find a copy of a letter to grade 5 Parents/ Students for each school outlining the information above.  In addition, we have placed a copy of our Feeder School Registration package distributed to students at our feeder Elementary school.  Should you have any questions, please feel free to give Clayburn a call.

And finally, in June we distribute to each feeder school a welcome letter which outlines information about school supplies, PE strip, BYOD, our WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) Orientation and First Day of School.

Thanks for sending us great kids!
