Abbotsford School District Launches Public Consultation for 2024-2025 Budget Cycle
As per the School Act, the Abbotsford Board of Education is preparing to approve an updated Strategic Plan and a balanced budget for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year by June 30th. The district is committed to providing a high-quality education while upholding fiscal responsibility and invites employees, families, and community members to share their voices in the consultation process.
The first public budget meeting, which was live-streamed and can be viewed on our district YouTube channel (@AbbotsfordSD), was held on March 6, 2024, where Secretary-Treasurer Ray Velestuk presented budget information to parents and community members. A second public budget meeting is scheduled for May 16, 2024, at the School Board Office, with the option to attend virtually via Microsoft Teams.
The Abbotsford School District's budget is guided by several key principles, including maximizing resource allocation to support the Strategic Plan's goals and priorities, fostering a strong understanding of budget information through ongoing communication, and maintaining a three-year budget plan to support program initiatives. The district also maintains surplus/reserve balances to address emergent needs and upholds strong fiscal management policies.
The district has launched an Engagement Portal for the Strategic Plan and Budget Consultation to gather community feedback. The public is encouraged to participate online, where they can complete the survey, view the budgeting consultation timeline, and learn more about how the school district plans to allocate funds to ensure every student's success.
Feedback will be collected until April 30, 2024.
