Nut Aware School
The safety, health, and well-being of students are shared responsibility among parents/guardians, students, the healthcare community, school employees, and the Abbotsford School District.
We have several students in our school this year who have either a sensitivity or a severe allergy to peanuts and/or tree nuts. Peanut and tree nut reactions can result from touching nut products, eating nut products, and breathing in air-born nut molecules. Our students who suffer from this allergy have different tolerance levels and also react quite differently when exposed. It is important to note that reactions can be unpredictably more severe following each exposure, and so we must be ready in the event of such an emergency.
Our emergency protocols are in place, we have epi-pens and medications safely stored, and we have staff trained in the event first aid needs to be administered. As a shared responsibility, we ask that you have a conversation with your child about:
- washing after breakfast, before coming to school
- not sharing school snacks and lunch items with other students on the playground
- washing before and after eating snacks and lunches
Thank you very much for your cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school office at (604) 504-7007
