Career Development
School Goal:
- To increase student core competencies in relation to their career and life goals.
Clayburn has a robust explorations program that exposes students to possible career paths in carpentry, culinary arts, computer sciences, and music/band. In addition, we incorporate other activities that give students real life experience in the business world.
The Entrepreneurship Fairs are highlights of the year, and the selling of products is the culminating activity of imagining, determining consumer interest in products, design / planning, investing, producing, and finally selling products.
Every spring, our Grade 8’s collaborate to plan and use power tools to build mini versions of medieval catapults. This cross-curricular activity has student problem solve for planning (careers), building using proper angles (math), record data, write a scientific report, as well as research medieval catapults (social studies). Students then compete in the Clayburn fields to see which catapult can toss a golf ball the farthest.
Band concerts are the culmination of many months and many years of dedication to learning a musical instrument. This kind of long-term dedication is a life-skill that will apply to many aspects of a student’s future. Here is a photo of a recent band concert at Clayburn.
