Intellectual Development
School Goals:
- To increase student success in literacy.
- To increase student success in numeracy.
At Clayburn our teachers collaborate on how best to support students’ learning gaps in literacy and numeracy that come to light during instruction and through our district screeners for math (called the SNAP) and English Language Arts (called the ACT). This fall, additional targeted instruction is provided to augment reading comprehension skills in a grade blitz called Response to Intervention, or RTI for short. An analysis of the impact of our blitz will enable teachers to reflect on the best strategies that we are using in our regular instruction every day (Tier 1), and in our intervention time (Tier 2). These are photos of teachers collaborating and of students engaged in learning activities.
After the Winter Break, each grade will focus on numeracy interventions in this RTI model. Presently students are instructed in literacy and numeracy every day at Clayburn as we constantly build our base knowledge, move forward through our curricular competencies, and strive to identify and close learning gaps or challenge students into the “extending” assessment level.

Grade 6 RTI Teacher Collaboration. As Mr. Gabriel routinely says, “The answer is in the room.” Here teachers are working to align a common vision on how best to approach their upcoming RTI blitz.
Grade 8 RTI Teacher Collaboration. Guest presenters or “in-service” and on-going professional development can always help teachers reflect on plans and be up-to-date with strategies around curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
